How to edit your synopsis
You can update your book’s synopsis at any time if you are the book owner or have permission to edit book details. The location of this option depends on whether you have completed the book setup checklist.
If you have not yet finished the book setup checklist, return to the Begin Your Book task. Even if it is marked as complete, you can reopen it. Inside that task, you will find the synopsis field, where you can make changes and save your updates.
If you have completed the book checklist, open the book dashboard and go to the summary page. Select Edit Book Details, update the synopsis, and save.
Your updated synopsis appears immediately across the platform anywhere the book description is shown. If you are working on a community book, your synopsis is included in the library along with your title for other writers to review and ponder joining your book.
Changing the synopsis does not modify your existing chapters directly. However, it does change how your book is defined and understood moving forward. The synopsis acts as a foundation for tone, direction, and expectations, especially in collaborative books where other contributors may rely on it when writing.
For subscribers, the synopsis is also part of your book’s AI context memory that follows your book across the platform. This means it is used by tools like Book Chat and other analysis features to understand your story. Updating the synopsis can influence how these tools respond, what suggestions they provide, and how consistency checks interpret your book.
Because of this, significant changes to the synopsis can affect how your story is evaluated and may introduce inconsistencies with existing chapters. If your book is already in progress, consider reviewing earlier chapters or using consistency tools after making major updates to ensure everything still aligns.
In personal books, you have full control over these changes. In community and private group books, only the book owner or designated managers can edit the synopsis, since it helps guide all contributors working on the book.
The synopsis can be updated as often as needed, but it is best treated as a stable foundation once writing is underway.
