Editing Book Details

You can update many aspects of a book at any time from within the book’s workspace. Book details include not only the book’s title and cover, but also the planning elements and structural information that define how the project works.

Basic details such as the book’s title, description, cover image, and notes can be edited whenever needed. Notes are flexible by design and can be adjusted at any time without affecting other contributors or previously written content.

Books also include structured planning elements such as plots, characters, and worksheets. These elements can be edited, but some of the underlying structure is intentionally locked once it is chosen. For example, when a plot style or character framework is selected for a book, that style cannot be changed later. This ensures consistency across the project and prevents foundational changes that could conflict with work already created by other contributors.

While the structure or style cannot be switched once selected, the content within it can still be edited. You can revise plot details, update character information, and refine worksheets as the project evolves, as long as those changes stay within the chosen framework.

This locking behavior exists to protect shared projects. In collaborative or community books, contributors may rely on existing plot or character information when writing their chapters. Preventing structural changes ensures that earlier work remains valid and aligned with the book as it develops.

Personal books are treated differently. Because these projects belong to a single author, you have more flexibility to change planning structures without affecting other contributors. This allows you to experiment and refine your approach as your ideas take shape.

Whenever information is added to or removed from a book, including updates to notes, plots, characters, or worksheets, the book’s AI memory is updated as well. This ensures that AI assisted tools reflect the most current state of the project and remain consistent with the book’s established information.

Editing book details takes effect immediately and does not remove chapters, reset progress, or undo completed work. Only users with the appropriate permissions can make these changes, and contributors may not see all options depending on their role.

Updating book details is a normal part of a project’s lifecycle and allows a book to evolve while preserving the consistency needed for collaboration and long term writing.
