Managing your books from the dashboard
Your dashboard is the central place where you manage all of your books on Next Chapters. Any book you create, join, or are invited to will appear here.
At the top of the dashboard, you may see a task list if there are items that need your attention. This task list highlights actions that are time sensitive or incomplete so you can quickly see what to focus on next without opening every book individually.
Tasks may appear here if you have not finished completing a book’s setup, if a chapter you submitted has been returned for review, if a chapter is awaiting your approval, or if you have been invited to join a book and have not yet responded. The task list updates automatically as items are completed or resolved.
When tasks are present, you will also see an alert indicator in the main navigation at the top of the page. This serves as a reminder that something requires attention, even if you are working elsewhere on the platform.
Below the task list, books on your dashboard are grouped based on how you are involved with them. This may include books you created, books you manage, books you are contributing to, and community books you are participating in. This separation helps you quickly understand your role in each project and what actions are available to you.
From the dashboard, you can open any book to return to its workspace and continue writing, planning, reviewing submissions, or managing collaborators. Opening a book always takes you back into that specific project, with its checklist status, tools, and activity intact.
The dashboard also reflects the current state of each book. You may see books that are still in setup, actively being written, awaiting submissions, or otherwise in progress. Community books you are involved with appear here once they are available to participants.
Managing your books from the dashboard does not change their content. It is an organization and navigation layer designed to help you move between projects, respond to outstanding tasks, and keep track of everything you are involved in without needing to search or recreate anything.
If you are invited to a book by another author, that invitation will appear in your dashboard and in the task list until you accept or decline it. Once accepted, the book becomes part of your active workspace.
The dashboard is designed to be the starting point for all book related work, giving you a clear view of your projects, your responsibilities, and what needs attention next.
